Sonatina in C – Clementi

  • hands together throughout
  • try to get everything at one tempo, but do this through very slow practice

Sacred Music Competition

Etude – Khatchaturian

  • first thing go through ONLY the difficult measures and work those out slowly so that you know them well (memorize)
  • then go back and play very slowly from the beginning to end with metronome at 80 bpm for a quarter note (or slower if you need to)
  • Remember staccato portions
  • repeat the above until those problem areas are easy (it may take you several days like this). Then work on speeding up, paying attention to articulations, balance (don’t make the repeated F’s too loud), and dynamics
