Joaquin’s Piano Lessons
Feb 26, 2025
Technique/Scales
G Major Scale 2 octaves hands together slowly
- Curve fingers
- Have the hand/arm angled outward
- level wrist (not high and low), and relaxed elbows
Rhythm
- Do 5-Part Lap Map, making up your own rhythms. You can look at the Longy rhythms and choose ones you see there to try
- Then do 5-Part rhythm the “old” way
- stop if you make a mistake and figure out what the mistake was and which of the 3 causes of error it was
Sightreading
Do one unit per week – Units 5, 6, and 7 – don’t play the ensemble pieces
Theory
Redo p. 22, 27, and fix Unit 7 issues
Do one unit per week, Unit 8, 9, and 10
Etudes
Nothing for now
Repertoire
Sonatina in C – Clementi
- hands together throughout
- try to get everything at one tempo, but do this through very slow practice
Sacred Music Competition
Etude – Khatchaturian
- page 1 hands together – be CAREFUL of your hand positions/which octave you should be playing in (especially LH)
- learn pages 2 and 3 hands separately – I want you to be able to play the whole thing hands together by the next lesson, even if you have some trouble spots and have to play it slowly
- Don’t polish the first page or the easy parts if you don’t know how to play any other part of the piece
