Technique/Scales

F major scale (two 8va), arpeggios (two 8va) – hands separately, then together. Try to add in as much of gestures/rotation as possible. Keep fingers as curved as possible

Ploger: 6-Part Lap Map p. 68 improv

6-part Longy Rhythm – do this without Lap Map, tapping on beat 1 only and whispering on dots. Use your good coach to remind yourself to go through the tough section first, then do entire right side, then start from beginning. When you can do this without a mistake, then you can add Lap Map

  • Try to keep going if you make a mistake – identify the cause of error, and apply the correct cure in time

Theory/Sightreading

  • Theory – RCM Book 6 Unit 4 – follow steps on top of p. 49 to determine the intervals

Ensemble piece: Halftime Show

Repertoire

Bach Prelude in C Minor BWV 999

  • Get RH blocked chords to a point where they are easy to play
  • Play LH alone as written
  • try playing RH blocked chords with LH as written

Melody (Ivan Sings) by Khatchaturian p. 152-153 in Classics to Moderns

  • Work on memorizing this to put on repertoire list

Enchantment

  • Work the B section by playing RH from beat 3 8th notes to the downbeat chord in the next measure (m.11 to12, 13 to 14)
  • soft pedal on last to measures (do damper normally)

Sonatina in C, Op. 36 No. 3 – Clementi

  • Come up with a “scene” for this piece that goes with this music
  • work in small sections (4 measures at a time or less) on playing faster. First try to “hear” it faster in your mind, then try playing it. This may take a few times before you are able to do it. With some 16th note passages, be sure not to do big gestures with wrist, this is more fingery and takes a smaller hand for many of these passages
  • focus on playing on the tips of your fingers, especially finger 5
