Do a little of note name drills each day. Feel free to use your “cheat sheet” with the mnemonic devices
In Theory Book: nothing this week beyond reviewing the note names section
Lesson Book
Go through all of Unit 1 (p. 6-27)
- Use 3-10-3 below to learn each piece. Don’t bother doing 3-10-3 with exercises, like on p. 16-17 for example – only do for songs
- After doing 3-10-3 with a piece, just play through that piece on subsequent days, playing each learned song every day at least once (max 3 times per piece)
- Practice time should be roughly 30 minutes per day, but definitely no longer than 45 minutes of playing. You can do theory and improvisation for as long as you feel like
- Once you’ve learned a piece and feel comfortable playing it, you can scan the QR code to try playing along with the backing track
3-10-3
- Choose a short segment of 3-5 notes in length
- Review first what you need to play in this segment (which hand, which fingers, how long you hold each note, etc.)
- Play that segment 3 times in a row
- Rest for about 10 seconds
- Play that same segment 3 times in a row again
- Repeat steps 1-5 with the next segment until you’ve completed the whole song
