Rhythm

  • Do 5-Part Lap Map, making up your own rhythms. You can look at the Longy rhythms and choose ones you see there to try
  • Then do 5-Part rhythm the “old” way
  • stop if you make a mistake and figure out what the mistake was and which of the 3 causes of error it was

Scales, Chords, and Technique

Work on Eb Major scale, one hand at a time, then together

  • it’s good to look at your hands
  • figure out first where your black keys are, then try playing the scale

Technique:

  • Learn p. 12-17
  • use 3-10-3 for Winter Wind

Theory

Do p. 10-17 (it’s a lot, so do whatever you have time for)

Lessons

Learn Two Spirituals p. 32-33

  • play the chords on the top of page 32 first to get used to the I V7 chords
  • count out loud, but try to count in your head as it gets easier
  • do 3-10-3 to learn these

Performance

Keep practicing Theme by Haydn p. 12-13

  • use 3-10-3 to learn
  • write in counting and count out loud

Fairy Tale

  • play RH f  beat 1 and 2 and then add the LH “ghosting” the notes or just tapping the keys without pressing them down. Then press LH notes without sounding them, and then try to play while keeping RH f
  • work each phrase in the RH alone, coming up with different ideas on how to shape the phrase with dynamics, and deciding what the most important note might be, and working the dynamics around that
  • work on async hands (hands not together). Let the RH fall slightly behind the LH

Stars and Stripes

  • break up into sections: m. 1-37 (Eb major), m. 38-70, m. 71-94 (m. 95-end repeats m. 38-94)
  • use 3-10-3 to work on the difficult areas first: around m. 66, and m. 84-86, then go back to the first section and work 8-16 measures or so per day with 3-10-3
