Sonatina Op 36 No 1 3rd mvt

  • Decide which measures are “red” (needs a lot of work), “yellow” (needs some work), and “green” (needs minimal work or none)
  • From the red measure, break up into segments of 4 measures or less
  • Place up to 3 of those segments in the first blue boxes of the Passages column
  • Choose from the remaining red or yellow measures, break up into 4 measure segments, and place those in the next set of colored boxes.
  • On Day 1, check off each box in that column once you practice it (try doing the 3-10-3 method below). Do the same for the next two days.
  • Day 4, you don’t practice any blue boxes, and start passages from another piece or from remaining red or yellow measures
  • On blank days, you don’t play those passages. You can play other measures from the piece if you like, but don’t play the passages

3-10-3 Method

  1. Pick a very short passage to play: only 3-5 notes or items
  2. Play that passage slowly – pick a tempo you can do it without a mistake. Do this 3 times
  3. Wait 10 seconds
  4. Play the same passage 3 times under tempo without mistakes
  5. If your passage was short enough, it should be easy to do in roughly 30 seconds total
